Participation of OSA student conferences and exchange activities with other OSA student chapters in other universities. In addition, we also hold the laboratories tour and lectures for guests and visitors from overseas universities.

Participation of the 70th Chofu Festival (video posting)!
This year's Chofu Festival will be hold online from November 21st to November 23rd.
UEC-OSA Student Chapter will also participate in the Youtube Live at Chofu Festival with a video which made by the members of UEC-OSA with the cooperation of various laboratories in the UEC. Please have a watch to our video !

Alumni lecture (On zoom)!
The first UEC-OSA student chapter president, Mr.Uchida and the second president, Dr.Tomura gave us a talk about research, job hunting, career paths, work, etc. And our supervisor, Prof.Minoshima also joined our lecture and gave us some advices and shared some experience to us. And after the lecture, we also held a free talk session. Thanks for the participation and cooperation to Mr. Uchida, Dr. Tomura and Pfof. Minoshima, and all the participants!

Participation of SCOL @ Osaka!
OSA Student Conference on Light 2019 was held at Osaka University Nakanoshima Center! Four members of UEC-OSA, Adachi, Kawamura, Saito, and Morito participated this conference.

Stamp rally!
At the Chofu Festival and the open campus, we created a laboratory stamp rally about the field of optics and distributed it after the information session to let more people interest our research like last year. The prize was "TV stone(ulexite)", eraser, key chain and magical light pen!

Participation of Student Leadership Conf. in the United States
President Tomura attended the annual conference in Washington, DC, USA. This is an event held by the OSA Headquarters that only OSA Chapter member students can participate in. All expenses are supported by the Headquarters!
More than 200 students from all over the world gathered in this conference, and it was a very intense content with various lectures about research, career and the tourism in DC. over two days. After that, President Tomura continued to participate in FiO LS which is also an international conference hosted by OSA. We have to repeat that ,for the total of this trip, OSA paid for almost all of the expenses!
If you become a member of UEC-OSA, you will also have such great chance to attend this conference!

Communication with the research team at Tsinghua University!
Dr. Wu's research team from Tsinghua University in China visited the UEC, and UEC-OSA guided them at the university. Dr. Wu gave a lecture at the UEC last year as well. It was a meaningful meeting with active discussions. And we also increased our publicity to Tsinghua University !

Communication with the research team of Dalian University of Technology!
Professor Chui of Dalian University of Technology in China and his 25 students visited the UEC and was guided at the university by UEC-OSA. We were able to form a cooperative relationship between OSA chapters of the two universities. We hope to continue such international communications!

Happy year-end party after the lecture!
Following the gathering in August, we held the year-end party! This time, many students participated not only from the laboratory of the UEC but also from the SPIE Student Chapter (SC) of the University of Tokyo and OSA SC! It was a very international party that there were English, Japanese and Chinese conversations around the party. UEC-OSA's activities have been connected across laboratories, universities, and even countries in this year. Please look forward to 2019 as well!

Lecture by Prof. Okawachi !
Prof. Okawachi from Columbia University was invited to give a lecture about the mode-locking laser "Microcom", which has a small size that it is enough to fit in a clock. Microcom is attracting attention all over the world. The question and answer session after the lecture was also very exciting!

Stamp rally!
At the Chofu Festival and open campus, we want many people to know about the research of the optics at UEC!
So we made a laboratory stamp rally and distributed it after the briefing session! The prize is a "TV stone" ,eraser and key chain!
We were very glad to see that everyone enjoyed the stamp rally which created by us with a long time. More than 30 children and junior and senior high school students visited around 4 or more laboratories and got the prizes! Thank you for your participation!

Lecture by Professor Wu of Tsinghua University!
Professor Wu from Tsinghua University came to UEC and hold a lecture. He gave a talk about the measurement by optical frequency comb which was easy to understand even for the students who doesn't know this research before. After the lecture, we held a gathering to enjoy some delicious sweets and dishes.
Many students gathered around Dr. Wu and enjoy a meaningful time. Thanks for all who participated!

Participation of JSCM @ Osaka University!
The "Japan Student Chapter Meeting (JSCM)", which was a big event that the Student Chapter members from all over Japan gathered together was held by Osaka University SC!
More than 50 students from Kanto to Kyushu reported on activities and communicated.
Our president and vice president participated in this event.

We had a drinking party!
Because of the coming of summer vacation, members of UEC gathered together and had a drinking party. Twenty people participated and it has a happy atmosphere from beginning to end. We had a casual talk beyond the boundaries of the laboratory. This was the first gathering since the official inauguration of this association.
Let's held the party again, everyone!

Participation of the OSA reception!
The member of our association, Uchida attended the OSA reception held on October 31st (Monday) and met the OSA President of Elect and OSA Fellow, Eric Mazur. We reported about the launch of UEC-OSA and received the encouragement.
